# FAQ

## Can a member sell their own slice of one coin?

No. You cannot pick PEPE out of the bag and keep the rest. `leave` burns shares and pays a **pro-rata slice of every bag plus quote**. Sell those tokens from your own wallet afterwards. You can leave 25% / 50% / 75% / 100% of *your shares*; each leave is still the full mix.

## My mates and I all hold the same coin. Can we sell together without one of us dumping on the rest?

Yes, with a **fair exit** pool, which is separate from a family trust. Everyone deposits the coin into one pool, the operator sells the whole pile in one transaction, and the ETH is split by exactly how many tokens each person put in. No pricing, no shares: your cut of the ETH is your cut of the tokens. The person running the sell earns nothing from it; familio takes a fixed 1%, written into the contract. You can take your tokens back any time before the sell, and if the operator goes quiet anyone can settle the pool a week after the door closes. See [Fair exit](/the-product/fair-exit.md) or start one at [familio.trade/exit/new](https://familio.trade/exit/new).

Do **not** send tokens straight to a family trust for this: tokens that arrive at a trust without a trade are an airdrop split across the existing members by their shares, and the sender gets no credit.

## What if the head disappears?

Leave. Exits do not need the head. If a co-pilot is named and trading is unlocked, they can still trade or lock the wheel. If the crew is locked with no co-pilots, nobody else will ever trade that family; members take their slices and go.

## What if a token is frozen or `balanceOf` reverts?

The app detects it and offers **leave without that bag** (`leaveWith` skip mask). The skipped slice stays in the vault. Untracked airdrops use the `extra` list; if a stray itself will not transfer, the drawer leaves it behind rather than blocking you.

## Do I need ETH for gas?

Yes. Every on-chain action (deploy, join, leave, claim, swap) costs Robinhood Chain gas in ETH, even in a USDG-quoted family. Message signatures (profile, notes, visibility, waitlist) are free.

## Is Robinhood Chain an L2?

Yes. It is an **Arbitrum Orbit** chain (chain id **4663**). ETH on Robinhood Chain is the chain's native gas token (bridged WETH at `0x0Bd7…` is the ERC-20 wrapper vaults hold). It is not Ethereum mainnet. Add the chain in your wallet before you deposit.

## Is this custodial? Can familio take my money?

No. Deposits go into a vault contract. The website cannot move them. The factory owner cannot drain a vault. The head cannot `transfer` your bags to themselves.

## Can the head lock me in?

No. They can lock **joins** and **trading**. They cannot lock **exits**. The only exit pause is a protocol emergency, maximum 72 hours — and the contract then forces 72 hours of open exits before another pause can start, so it cannot be rolled over.

## Can the head evict me and keep my bags?

No. `evict` pays your **entire** in-kind slice to you. Nothing is withheld. (A frozen token can make eviction revert — leave yourself with a skip mask in that case.)

## Are the contracts audited?

No. Tests and verified source, no third-party audit in this repo. See [Security](/developers/security.md).

## What is a co-pilot, and can they rug the rules?

Co-pilots buy, sell, pay out, pin notes, and flip the trading/joins locks. They cannot change the fee, door, caps, crew, or evict. They cannot stop you leaving. After crew lock, the head cannot add new ones.

## How does joining later not dilute me?

The joiner's deposit is swapped into the current mix first. They are minted shares from the **minimum** ratio of (quote added / quote before) and (tokens acquired / bags held). They cannot mint more than the mix they actually bought. Surplus from a bad fill stays with existing members.

## Why did I get fewer shares than I expected?

Slippage on the join legs. You paid your own. Set a higher `minShares` (the app does this from the quote) if you would rather revert.

## Why can't I join a tiny vault?

If `totalShares < 1e9` (1 gwei of ETH, or 0.001 USDG of founding), joins revert so a dust supply cannot be inflated. The last member can leave and the head can found again.

## What is 7D return?

Change in value-per-share over \~7 days, with lifetime payouts added back so distributing cash does not look like a loss. Marked to pool prices, not to a tweet. See [Leaderboard](/around-the-family/leaderboard-feed-live.md).

## What does "value" on a card mean?

Bags plus free quote at the last snapshot / refresh. Illiquid tokens can print a number that you could not actually sell for.

## What is auto-send?

An on-chain flag (`setAutoSend`), flipped in one small transaction. **Off (default):** payouts sit in the vault as **claimable** until you `claim`. **On:** a keeper may call `claimFor` every \~10 minutes and push quote to your wallet. It cannot send anywhere else. Flip it off any time; claiming yourself always works.

## Why does /me PnL not show −100% after a full payout?

Member PnL on `/me` is `(value now + lifetime paid out − contributed) / contributed`. Cash you already claimed or had auto-sent counts as money got back, so a slice that was fully distributed reads flat instead of −100%.

## What is the heads strip on the leaderboard?

The top of `/leaderboard` ranks **people** (heads), not families — career stats aggregated across every vault they run. When a family closes, it leaves the families board but its paid-out history stays on the head's row.

## Why can't I join when the pool is empty?

If outstanding shares exist but the vault has **zero value** (everything sold and distributed), mirror-entry cannot price a fair slice and joins revert. The UI blocks it. The head can refill by sending ETH (or quote) directly to the vault address. Escrowed approval-mode deposits are refundable via **cancel** at any time.

## How do I claim a @handle?

Connect a wallet with no profile. A sheet asks you to pick a permanent handle — one free message signature, no gas. You get a generated avatar and the browser signs in. Handles are never reused. Snooze with **not now** for the session. From `/me` you can later **verify with X** or **verify with Telegram** so your @ wears a checkmark.

## How do I know a head is really who they say?

Three layers, weakest to strongest:

* **Wallet address** — always the ground truth on-chain.
* **Familio handle** — the wallet signed to claim `@name` at `/u/<handle>`. A typed name at family launch without a claim shows as unverified.
* **Verified X or Telegram** — green checkmark on the profile. X goes through OAuth (x.com confirms the account); Telegram hands you a one-time link that opens `@FamilioTradeBot` in your own Telegram app — press **Start** and Telegram tells our bot who you are. Several Telegram accounts? The same screen shows the code — switch to the account you want and send it to `@FamilioTradeBot` (or `/verify <code>`) instead. No phone number, no browser login, nothing from telegram.org runs on the page. Profiles show the platform logo and `@handle` with the checkmark. You can remove or switch a verified account **until a wallet on your profile has been head, co-pilot or mod of a family** — with nothing riding on the identity yet, a wrong account is yours to fix. After that, verified accounts are **permanent**, like the handle itself: re-verifying the same account still works (it picks up a renamed @) but a different one is refused, so a head can't move their record onto a burner after a bad run. One platform account can only verify on **one** profile. Handles can't be typed: verification is the only way an X or Telegram @ lands on a profile, and once you've run a family it stays.

A checkmark means the platform vouched — not that familio endorses their trades.

## Can I trade without wallet popups?

Yes, optionally. **Turbo mode** generates a browser **session key**, arms it with two wallet signatures (`setSessionKey` and funding gas), and signs swaps locally with no popups. Because it trades on your behalf rather than adding a crew member, it works on any family, locked crew or not. See [Trading](/the-product/trading.md#turbo-mode-popup-free-trading).

## Is turbo safe?

It is a deliberate trade-off, not a magic upgrade. The session key can only swap — never withdraw funds, change rules, evict, or block exits. Swaps are attributed to you. The key never leaves your browser. But **anyone with access to that browser** can trade while turbo is on. Turn it off to sweep gas back and revoke the key. Do not arm turbo on a shared machine.

## Why did MetaMask call familio.trade malicious?

MetaMask and other wallets run site scanners that were cautious about a new domain. **Blockaid reviewed familio.trade in September 2026** and the malicious-site flag was removed; it may take up to 24 hours to clear everywhere. That is not a safety endorsement — read the contracts, assume total loss, reject anything you did not click.

## Why is my private family on the leaderboard?

Private means the **website** blurs numbers for outsiders. The family is still listed. Ranking uses real figures; strangers see "private" instead of the PnL. On-chain nothing is hidden.

## Does the Telegram bot need the group's chat id?

No. Connect from the head panel with a one-time code, or `/connect FAM-……` in the group. `/chatid` still exists as a leftover and is not in the command list.

## Can I use a hardware wallet?

Yes, if it can sign on chain 4663. You will confirm the same deploy / join / leave transactions.

## Can I transfer my shares to another wallet?

Not in v1. Shares are non-transferable. Leave from the old wallet and join from the new one (door rules apply). You can **link** extra wallets to one profile for viewing.

## What about Stock Tokens / tokenised equities?

Tradeable, like anything else with a pool. A family can buy GME or NVDA directly (WETH → stock on Uniswap v3), and families holding stock-paired memes receive the stock as holder rewards — those land as airdrop strays the head can fold into the bags or sell. The factory does have a block list; it is empty and reserved for emergencies.

## Can a family buy a memecoin that's paired with GME / NVDA / another stock?

Yes. Most launches on Robinhood Chain are paired with a Stock Token, not ETH, so there is no ETH pool to buy from. The family's adapter does what every bot does, in one transaction: ETH → stock token on Uniswap v3, then stock token → meme on Pons. The stock token passes through the adapter for that call; the trust ends up holding the meme. Two pools means two fees, and the quote you see already includes both. See [trading](/the-product/trading.md#tokens-paired-with-a-stock).

## Is FAM required?

No. See [$FAM token](/token/fam.md).

## Where do I read the legal text?

[familio.trade/legal](https://familio.trade/legal). Contracts win if copy disagrees.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.familio.trade/reference/faq.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
